Field surveys in 2010 and 2011 across the southern US detected 13 out of 17 tested viruses in watermelon and other cucurbits, with the highest frequencies observed for Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV), Papaya ringspot virus-W (PRSV-W), and Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV). The study highlights the prevalence of potyviruses in these crops, particularly in the southern US, with mixed infections also noted.
