This study at the U.S. Vegetable Laboratory in Charleston, SC, evaluated the effects of “SC27” rhizobacteria on two triploid seedless watermelon cultivars, Melody and Fascination. Four treatments varied in application timing, with a control group using only water. Despite slight early-season plant vigor in “SC27” treatments, no significant differences in fruit setting, yield, or quality were observed at season’s end. Heavy rainfall likely equalized treatment effects. Further experiments with increased plot distances are planned for summer 2018 to mitigate rain impact.
