From 2008 to 2010, field surveys in Oklahoma’s major cucurbit-growing areas identified seven viruses infecting cucurbit crops, with Papaya ringspot virus-watermelon strain (PRSV) being the most prevalent, found in 51% of samples. The study also discovered new weed host species infected with PRSV and potential new virus-like sequences in weeds through advanced genetic analysis.
